Join Neelu on her journey - From Coma to Coast to Coast!

        Picture
_The ‘Limitless with support’ campign is designed to bring awareness and draw attention to the ways that the people in New Zealand can support one another to achieve their goals. Whether this support is given to someone with a disability who cannot undertake an activity without support or whether this support is given to a next door neighbour who has dreamed of doing a DIY job on their deck, there are many people who need support. With support the goals that can be achieved are LIMITLESS!

10 years ago Neelu was in a coma for 4 months. It took years of rehabilitation - learning to talk again, learning to walk again and allowing her body to repair and come back to normal. As a result of her illness, Neelu has been left with only 30% of her eyesight and major balance issues making a variety of day to day activiities impossible for her to do without support of other people. Despite this, Neelu has cycled in the Paracycling World Champs in Bordeaux on a tandem cycle, climbed Mount Aspiring, and heliskied the Tasman Glacier as well as earning a masters dgree in Disability Policy completed this year.

        The Challenge:
Her next goal is to complete the 2012 Speights Coast to Coast, supported by an amazing crew of 3 people- one to guide her through the run, one to kayak with and one to cycle with as well a support team assisting with training and the sponsorship and promotion side of things.
The Speight's Coast to Coast is the benchmark by which all other multisport events are judged worldwide. Traversing the South Island of NZ from Kumara Beach on the Tasman Sea to Sumner Beach on the Pacific Ocean, the challenge involves a 140km cycle (3 stages), a 36km run (which includes a 33km mountain stage that crosses the Southern Alps), & a 67km kayak of the grade 2 Waimakariri River.  The Coast to Coast media Team will cover Neelu and her supports through this race documenting the highs and lows of her amazing journey.

        The Inspiration
Neelu who has just completed her Masters degree in Disability Policy at the University of Canterbury, and works for CCS Disability Action as a Disability Awareness and Education Trainer, feels that by completing this race (which many totally able bodied people would not dream of attempting), with the support of 3 committed crew and a promotional team, she will prove that people with disabilities can do ANYTHING when they set their mind to it and are supported.
